The scene in which Susie is raped and killed is graphic enough to cause the hairs on the back of the reader's neck to stand up but not disgusting enough to turn you off to the idea of reading any further. It truly wraps the reader into the book and makes you want to continue reading because it is both emotionally and mentally stimulating. As you continue reading, you would expect the novel to keep you on the edge of your seat for all three hundred twenty eight pages, but that is simply not the case. The middle of The lovely bones is actually quite boring. It is a very slow pace book and there were times were i considered skipping whole chapters just to pick up the pace. She can hear them, see them and know what their thinking but she cant contact them. She watches as their lives drastically change. She watches her family go through hard times and pain without being able to help them. But suzies inability gives her great personal and emotional growth durring the book. She is portrayed as an average teenage girl at the beginning of the book, but she undergoes transformations and finally begins to mature and grow up towards the end of the book.

My favorite character was Lindsey, susies younger sister. If one of my family members died I think i would be some what like her. I would be strong and not show emotions to others, it would be hard, but I would do something like that. The youngest sibling, buckley, was also a well written character. He made the best of every situation, even Susies death.

While reading The, lovely bones my interest struck throughout the whole novel. During this story i never became bored and I was always on the edge of my seat. Alice sebold put random facts about the characters into the story, and some of them just made my jaw drop. I would not change anything about this book, it was amazing!
